Carry On: How the LilleBaby Carrier Won Me Over

Nov. 7, 2016: You’d think after having three children, I’d have this whole baby-carrier-thing figured out. My first baby lived in the Original Ergobaby carrier. With my second, I conquered my fear of the Moby Wrap and loved it. But with my third, now 20 weeks old, it’s the Complete Original LilleBaby Carrier that’s won me over.

First of all, it’s really comfortable. Every morning I walk to drop two children off at two schools—where strollers have proven quite difficult to navigate with—so comfort is key. Padded shoulder straps, a wide waistband, and the additional lumbar support pad help ease the pain that can come with carrying a 16-pound baby around all morning. Some say this carrier is bulky or cumbersome, but you need that for this level of comfort. I tried using the Beco Baby Gemini carrier, but it just wasn’t as comfortable (nor did I like its safety release on the straps that required two hands—ug!).

The LilleBaby is very easy to get on and off. The Baby Bjorn Original Carrier always gets high marks for this, so I was pleased to find another carrier that’s also just as simple. The straps can be unbuckled with one hand, and adjustments are made easy with snaps. I think carriers with straight straps, like the LilleBaby, as opposed to those that cross in the back, are also easier.

According to the National Weather Service, this past August was the hottest on record for Boston, so it goes without saying, since my babies are all spring and summer babes, how pleased I was to learn that the LilleBaby doesn’t require an additional infant insert.

A small but important feature: the zipper pocket. Why is there no pocket for keys in the new Ergobaby 360, an otherwise fantastic carrier? Yes, the LilleBaby carrier has a small pocket that’s perfect for keys, a cell phone, and money for, say, a large coffee.

The Complete Original LilleBaby Carrier has six carrying positions. Your baby can face in or out while seated in the front, and a wide seat makes this more comfortable. It is made of soft and durable 100% cotton fabric, but more breathable versions are also available. Other features and specs include:

  • Newborn – 45 lbs
  • Easy-to-use detachable sun hood
  • Six Carrying Positions: front-fetal, front-infant, front facing out, front-toddler, hip and back. No extra infant insert needed for newborns.
  • Zippered storage pocket
  • Lumbar support
  • Neck support
  • Two-way straps
  • Machine Washable
